Backing our State Emergency Services with new vehicles
Tasmania’s SES volunteers will soon be keeping our communities safe in new, modern vehicles.
Planning is now underway for the next phase of State Emergency Service fleet upgrades as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.
Minister for Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, said the Tasmanian Liberal Government will always back those in our community who are putting up a hand to help out.
“We are investing $5 million into more than 30 new vehicles for the incredible lifesavers in the SES.” Minister Ellis said.
“When Tasmanians need it, it is so important that our services have the right equipment to assist as safely as possible, so these new vehicles will include heavy rescue vehicles, medium response vehicles, light rapid response vehicles and tactical vehicles.
“This funding will ensure our dedicated SES volunteers can keep on responding to emergencies across Tasmania, protecting our community wherever people live,” he said.
This latest round of vehicle upgrades follows the Liberal Government’s proud record of supporting Tasmania’s first responders.
“We are so incredibly grateful for our emergency volunteers, who work hard to keep Tasmanians safe every day of the year.” Minister Ellis said.
“A vital part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is to prioritise the essential services Tasmania needs, enhance our regions, and keep our communities safe.
“The delivery of this First 100 Day commitment ensures we stay true to that.
“We all know the service our SES volunteers provide is absolutely vital, whether it’s responding to a flood, wild weather or a car crash, or supporting our police and firefighters during other emergencies,” Minister Ellis said.
The Tasmanian Government’s 2023-24 Budget allocated $2 million to upgrading the SES vehicle fleet, and this further $3 million takes the total to $5 million, which will deliver more than 30 vehicles across the SES fleet in the coming years.
