Data tool to drive training investment

A new data tool will provide insights into the vocational education investment opportunities that are available right across the State.

Minister for Skills, Training and Workforce Growth, Felix Ellis, said the new Regional Data Tool is now released and will provide visual information to Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) on the number of government-funded vocational education and training enrolments in Tasmania.

“The tool is the first of its kind in Tasmania and can be accessed on the Skills Tasmania website,” Minister Ellis said.

“RTOs have been seeking more available data so they can match future investment into the kind of courses learners are looking to complete and the regions they come from.

“This is the type of innovation we want to see more of so we can deliver the workforce of the future, including our $600,000 investment in Skills Tasmania data improvements in this Budget and the TasTAFE strategic plan which charts the path for more digital learning in our VET system.

"Importantly, the data used in the portal is provided to RTOs from Skills Tasmania, so people who use it can be sure it is accurate.

“The data tool will be a valuable resource for stakeholders to help them inform their decision-making and better align training with industry and learner needs.”

Minister Ellis said the website has been developed following feedback with RTOs, employers and the Rockliff Liberal Government’s Jobs Hubs.

The tool will be updated annually with the most recent full calendar year of enrolment data.

The data is not personally identifiable with numbers rounded to the nearest five to protect student privacy.

The Tool is in beta form and can be accessed at www.skills.tas.gov.au.
