Building a training system that creates the workforce of the future

The Rockliff Liberal Government is committed to supporting a training system that helps create the Tasmanian workforce of the future for our growing economy.

Minister Felix Ellis said that the latest National Centre for Vocational Education Research statistics showed that this Government is delivering on this plan.

“Today’s NCVER statistics show that 30,830 Tasmania VET program enrolments were Government funded in 2022.  This is up 7.7 per cent on 2021.

“The figures also show the total number of 2022 VET program enrolments delivered in Tasmania was 48,940, 63 per cent of which were Government-funded.

“Incredibly, at least 24 per cent of the Tasmanian resident population aged 15 to 64 years participated in nationally recognised VET, the third highest rate across all Australian states and territories.”

Minister Ellis said that the Government is focused on making sure Tasmanians can access the training they need to get a job.

“Previous data showed that just over 7400 Tassie apprentices and trainees got their start in the 12 months to December last year - up from just over 4900 at the same point in 2018.

“This is nearly 2500 more Tasmanians commencing their training last year than in 2018, a 50 per cent increase.’’

While VET training is expected to normalise over 2023, following the cessation of Commonwealth programs and COVID stimulus, the Government is continuing to invest in skills and training.

Minister Ellis said that the Rockliff Liberal Government is focused on building a strong economy and creating job opportunities for Tasmanians.
