Hats off to our SES on Wear Orange Wednesday

The Tasmanian Government is celebrating our selfless SES volunteers this Wear Orange Wednesday. 
 
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, paid tribute to the often unsung heroes who help keep us safe 24/7.  
 
“Throughout our State we are grateful to have more than 700 State Emergency Service volunteers who tirelessly serve our community day in day out,” said Minister Ellis. 
 
“The vital work they provide in responding to emergency situations such as storm and severe weather events, search and rescue and road crash incidents cannot be overstated.
 
“The theme of this year's National Volunteer Week is ‘Something for Everyone’, which really captures what it means to be a volunteer.  From emergency response to community engagement, incident management to supporting our emergency service partners, each and every volunteer plays a vital role helping those in need.”
 
“Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future prioritises the essential services we need to help develop stronger communities and enhance our regions.
 
“We’re investing $28 million into Emergency Services Hubs in Kingston, Wynyard and Rosebery and $5 million into vehicle fleet upgrades for our SES, including seven modern heavy rescue vehicles, five medium response vehicles, 11 light rapid response vehicles and 12 tactical vehicles. 
 
“We’re keen to see the next generation discover the value of volunteering and serving our communities; we’ll trial an Emergency Services Cadet Program for young Tasmanians aged 12-17. 
 
“I’m proud to back our volunteers in, and give them the support they need to keep Tasmanians safe in times of fire, flood or storms.”
