Congratulating our Apprentice of the Year

The Tasmanian Government congratulates Oliver Burnell for winning this year’s Housing Industry Association Jim Brookes Australian Apprentice of the Year award.

Minister for Skills and Training, Felix Ellis, said Oliver’s professionalism, unwavering work ethic and pride in his work had seen him shine with Hobart-based Ronald Young + Co Builders.

“We are so proud of Oliver and his achievements. As a young Tassie builder displaying excellence, he is an inspiring role model for apprentices and trainees all over the state.”

The Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future has a clear commitment to vocational education and training.

“We know just how important it is for young tradies to get the best possible start,” said Minister Ellis.

“This is why we are expanding the highly successful YouthBuild program across all secondary schools, which will deliver VET for around 3000 students over four years, and we are extending the High Vis Army program to include more trades.

“We’re also establishing a $30 million VET Facilities Fund to deliver modern, fit-for-purpose VET facilities and industry standard equipment in our secondary schools, colleges and Trade Training Centres so that our students can develop the skills they need for a rewarding career.

“The Government wishes Oliver all the best as he continues to build his career, and we will keep supporting thousands more apprentices and trainees over the coming years to help us build our state.”
