Labor all sook, no substance on racing integrity enforcement

Labor seems to think that current or former police officers should be excluded from the Office of Racing Integrity.

Minister for Racing, Felix Ellis, today challenged Labor’s latest undue attack.

“What exactly is their problem with Tasmania Police? This has shades of the bad old days when Labor went to war with law enforcement after they defunded the police,” Minister Ellis said.

“Did Mr Winter clear his slur with Opposition spokespeople for Police and Veterans beforehand?

“Mr Winter hasn’t asked a single racing question in Question Time since I came into the role, hasn’t taken up a briefing on our new legislation for months and seems more interested in parroting Greens talking points on racing and attacking public servants, than the long-term future of the racing community.

“On racing it’s become clear his approach is all sook, no substance.

“Importantly, I thank Mr Rushton for initially putting his hand up to serve in the role as we finalise the abolition of the Office of Racing Integrity and move to a stronger enforcement framework with the new Tasmanian Racing Integrity Commissioner.

“As leaders, we should all be understanding when people need to withdraw from roles due to unforeseen circumstances.

“I also thank Robin Thompson, who has previously held the role as Acting General Manager of the Office of Racing Integrity, for stepping into the role during this important transition.”
