New career firefighters welcomed into the TFS ranks
The Tasmanian Government continues to bolster our frontline emergency services, welcoming 24 new career firefighters into the ranks of the Tasmania Fire Service.
Of the 24 new firefighters, eight will be stationed at Launceston Fire Brigade and sixteen at Hobart Fire Brigade.
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis congratulated the everyday heroes joining the ranks of the Tasmania Fire Service.
“You’ll be providing an essential service to Tasmanians in their greatest time of need, running towards the danger to save lives,” Minister Ellis said.
“It is these extraordinary acts of bravery that our community should always be mindful of, honour and celebrate.
“It’s important to acknowledge the phenomenal efforts of the training team for their commitment to shaping the future of the Tasmania Fire Service, instilling world’s-best-practice skills and techniques into the next generation of firefighters.
“Our Government’s 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is backing in our fire and emergency services to keep communities safe,” he said.
The recruits completed 15 weeks of intensive training and will now move into brigades to continue their basic training for the next four years before becoming fully qualified.
Graduates will work as part of a crew in their brigade to respond to emergency incidents such as urban fire, bushfire, road crashes, hazardous materials incidents and specialist rescue incidents, as well as educating the community in fire safety and prevention.
