Building the Workforce for Tassie’s Renewable Energy Future

Innovative training opportunities to ensure our workforce has the right people with the right skills are being offered to thousands of Tasmanians.

Minister for Skills, Training and Workforce Growth, Felix Ellis, said more than 4,100 Tasmanians are on the way to new electrifying careers as the Energising Tasmania vocational skills training program draws to a close.

“These numbers show just how much excitement the energy and infrastructure sectors are generating in Tasmania,” Minister Ellis said.

He said the joint Australian and Tasmanian government program has created thousands of training places for Tasmanians looking to develop their careers in the energy and infrastructure workforce.

“This is the workforce we need to build Tasmania’s future as a renewable energy powerhouse," Minister Ellis said.

“The latest round of funding will cover 480 places in project management and civil construction and in advanced manufacturing.

“These skills are critical for Tasmanian businesses to be part of the supply chain for the international clean energy revolution and our plans to become the Battery of the Nation.”

The announcement coincides with the final round of the Energising Tasmania Training Market Development fund which is helping Tasmanians to develop their skills.

“A huge range of skills development has been funded, including the Australian Maritime College’s new marine and offshore winds qualifications, the expansion of Aurecon’s electricity supply industry design and drafting qualifications, and the expansion of solar electrical training for Future Energy Skills,” Minister Ellis said.

“Our investments in skills and training are assisting Tasmanians to reach their potential.

“In coming months we’ll have the Freer Farm Centre of Excellence, the Water and Energy Trades Centre of Excellence, new learning Hubs, and the Cyber Security Operations Centre.

“These are game changers for how we do things at TasTAFE and we are getting on with our reforms to put the learner at the centre of everything we do.

“Our Government is delivering training facilities to deliver Tassie's future workforce.

“We are giving people the education and training they need to help Tasmanian businesses continue to be competitive and at the cutting edge of industry.”
