Our strong plan to back in our fire and emergency services
The Tasmanian Government is backing in our fire and emergency services to keep Tasmanians safe.
The 2024-25 Budget drives the delivery of the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future with more than $41.5 million of new investments into our people, equipment and infrastructure, significantly bolstering our critical fire and emergency services.
Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, said the 2024-25 Budget focuses on supporting the everyday heroes that keep our State and our people strong, healthy and safe.
“We’ve increased funding to $4 million a year over the next four years for our Health and Wellbeing Program, specific to our frontline emergency services personnel,” Minister Ellis said.
“Fulfilling a key election commitment, we are also investing $1.5 million over three years to employ an additional permanent firefighter day-crew on the North West – bolstering community protection for the region.
“A further $1.5 million over three years is allocated to support recruiting extra field officers across Tasmania, who are critical in coordinating support and training to our fire and emergency services volunteers throughout the State.
“The SES will benefit from a range of modern vehicles, ensuring they can continue to undertake their critical work in road crash rescue, search and rescue, and flood and storm responses across Tasmania.”
A key part of the 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future is to build three Emergency Services Hubs across the State. The 2024-25 Budget includes a $27 million investment that comprises:
$15 million to develop an Emergency Services Hub in Kingston to support the safety of the growing southern region;
$2 million for a fit-for-purpose Hub for police, fire and emergency services workers in Rosebery; and
$10 million for a Hub at Wynyard, one of the busiest townships on the North West Coast.
“The Emergency Service Hubs will be crucial for the communities they serve, providing our valued emergency service personnel with contemporary facilities to support Tasmanians across the State,” Minister Ellis said.
The 2024-25 Budget builds on the recent delivery of the $763 million Tasmanian Government Radio Network, upgraded dispatch systems for emergency responders and a new purpose-built Emergency Operations Centre.
The Tasmanian Government will continue prioritising the essential services Tasmania needs to help develop stronger communities, enhance our regions and keep our communities safe.
